Retin A for Wrinkles
Retin-A was originally developed as an acne medication to unclog pores, but now it has been proven to work against wrinkles! Aside from plastic surgery, a great way to reduce wrinkles is tretinoin. Tretinoin is a vitamin A compound (better known as Retin-A) which works by stimulating cell turnover to slow down the aging process Retin-A also stimulates collagen production and blood flow into the dermis which helps skin to appear more youthful. It also prevents many wrinkles from occurring. Finally, it will also help erase the crow's feet and fine lines left by aging and the sun.

Retin-A cream comes in a variety of strengths, from 0.025% to 0.1 %. It's available by prescription only, so your dermatologist or plastic surgeon can help determine which concentration is best for you. Generally, people beginning Retin-A treatment apply the lowest-dosage cream nightly or every other night until their Physician instructs them otherwise.

Since Retin-A removes the dead top layer of skin, a common side effect is dry, sun-sensitive skin that can be irritated and scaly. Though both of these side effects typically diminish with time, you will still need a moisturizer to help hydrate the skin. Once you start using Retin-A, you should avoid the sun as much as possible and always wear an SPF of at least 15.

We usually don't forget to cleanse and moisturize before we go to bed. Unfortunately we are not quite as diligent with our use of masks. Regular use of masks can be very beneficial in improving skin health. Here are some reasons that should convince you how beneficial masks can really be for your skin.

Clay masks pull out all of the impurities in your skin, leaving it feeling fresh and rejuvenated. It can often clean out the dirt and oil in your pores which contribute to the formation of blackheads (especially around your nose). You want to try to keep these pores as clean as possible so that they do not stretch or become larger. Larger pores trap more dirt and oil. Overall, clay masks help refine pores and keep them free of problem-causing dirt and oil.

Why you should get a Chemical Peel
There are many types of chemical peels. Various chemicals, in a range of strengths, may be used for peeling procedures depending on your particular skin condition and may vary from case to case. Your licensed esthetician can determine which peel or advanced skin care product line would be best for you. Glycolic peels the most popular and commonly used. The Glycolic Peel is a safe and painless exfoliation process that removes a micro-thin top layer of skin. This form of skin rejuvenation is used to remove damaged cells and stimulate cell division. The end result is healthier, younger cells on the surface of your skin and with less fines lines, wrinkles, and hyper-pigmentation. The Glycolic Peel procedure also smoothes and softens your skin giving it a better texture. Your licensed esthetician will determine which Chemical peel is right for your skin during your skincare consultation.

The peels are usually sold in a series of six and are administered once a month. During your first peel, your skin care specialist usually starts with a low percentage of glycolic acid. Then over the series of peels, your skin care specialist will gradually work your way up to strength of 30%. The glycolic solution is applied to your skin, patients usually notice a slight a burning or itching sensation. With each treatment, you want to try and leave it on a few extra minutes versus the prior treatment since your skin begins to gradually tolerate the treatments.

Salicylic acid chemical peels are for people with oily skin. A salicylic acid peel decreases acne outbreaks.

After your chemical peel or any other type of exfoliation, it is important to use sunscreens since the skin is more susceptible to hyper-pigmentation and sun damage.

Drinking Lots of Water Slows The Aging Process
What do we need more then food? Water!

Water is a necessary and fundamental part of our lives. In fact, the water you drink literally becomes you. There is so much more you could say on this topic but let us leave it at this. Pure water contains no calories, is fat free, cholesterol-free, low in sodium, and non- acidic. It plays a major role in weight loss and weight management. Many regard water as the most significant factor in losing fat. Because it contains no calories, you can consume as much as you want without weight gain. Water serves as an appetite suppressant and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Water also helps to reduce water retention by stimulating your kidneys. Water retention is usually a sign that you are not drinking sufficient water thus causing your body to retain water to compensate for this shortage. Every biochemical action that takes place in your body takes place in water. Because of this fact, it is critically important to look at the source of your water intake because what it contains will have a direct effect on your health and aging.

Go to sleep!
Since sleep deprivation is so prevalent, you might think its negative impact on society is not that serious. However, research indicates otherwise. Women who get even an hour less than the recommended amount of sleep are at a greater risk for heart disease. Of course then there is also the toll it can take on your physical appearance. Because the biochemical changes occur at the cellular level, the effects might not be immediately visible, but they do add up over time. Sleep deprivation can lead to heightened oil production (which causes acne and blackheads) and accelerated collagen breakdown (which leads to wrinkles).

So get some rest ladies because they call it beauty sleep for a reason.

Overcome winter Depression
Itís that time of year again; the days are colder and shorter. Are you feeling down in the dumps? If so, we are here to let you know that this is not uncommon. About fifty to sixty percent of North Americans suffer from this same disorder. Environmental changes can lead to winter depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD. This disorder is caused by the brainís chemical reaction to less daylight. So ironically, the depression is not caused by the cold, but the lack of daylight. There are a variety of symptoms that can arise from this depression such as, change in sleep patterns, weight gain, to overwhelming thoughts of suicide. If you are one of the many sufferers of seasonal depression here are a few things that may help you overcome it:

LIGHT THEREPY: Buy a fixture that will hold four- foot- long fluorescent bulbs, not the standard kind, but the kind used for growing plants. These are the closest match to the spectrum of sunlight. Do not buy the standard fluorescent lights because they will only drain more energy from you.

STICK TO A DAILY ROUTINE: Go to bed on time so you will be able to do your light therapy first thing in the morning, which is the best time to do it. Also make a list of the things you have to do for the day and cross them off as you accomplish them.

TRY TO FORGET ABOUT THE WEATHER: The weather is something you cannot change so try to make a conscious decision to not let it affect your mood.

EAT HEALTHY AND EXERCISE: Eating healthier and exercising regularly can help improve your mood. Take a nice walk and remember to drink plenty of water during these dry winter months.

Liposuction
Liposuction is particularly well-suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localized fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them.

While it is possible to undergo liposuction at almost any age, you will obtain the best results if your skin still has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. When skin is inelastic (as in some older patients) it may not re-drape well and a skin tightening procedure may be necessary.

Otoplasty
Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of protruding ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.

Donít undergo a cosmetic procedure on a whim. Elective surgery is sometimes chosen based on a trend or a fad, or undergone as a ďcaught up in the momentĒ decision. People need to realize that there is more to cosmetic procedures than what is perceived on television and through the media.
