BOTOX® Cosmetic in Chicago

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a biological toxin (Botulinum Toxin Type A) transformed into a therapeutic agent. Work with BOTOX® Cosmetic began in the late 1960s to treat neurological disorders. Today, BOTOX® Cosmetic is used for the treatment of frown lines, forehead furrows, "crow's feet," lines and wrinkles of the lower face, and even nasal muscles (to decrease nostril flaring). BOTOX® Cosmetic injections have proven to be a very popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. After it's FDA approval in 2002, it's popularity has skyrocketed. It is frequently called "plastic surgery in a bottle." Aesthetic plastic surgeons have found that the type of lines and wrinkles that respond to BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are those caused by the muscles-specifically those muscles that contract during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting.

What are some of the uses of Botox?
Facial Wrinkles: The lines that appear between your brows (glabellar lines) actually result from muscle movement and the passage of time. After years of crinkling and wrinkling, those lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced. As we age, these lines may appear exaggerated and more permanent.

Primary Axillary Hyperhydrosis: Severe underarm sweating, a medical condition that involves hyperactive sweat glands. Sweat is the body's temperature regulator. In severe primary axillary hyperhydrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body's normal requirements. Severe primary axillary hyperhydrosis often goes undiagnosed, misdiagnosed and untreated due to lack of awareness.

Blepharospasm: A localized movement disorder (focal dystonia) that affects the muscles that control eyelid movement. The disorder is characterized by increased blinking caused by involuntary spasms of the muscles controlling the eyelid. Blepharospasm usually affects both eyelids and can progress to functional blindness (an inability to open the eyelids for any significant period of time).
